“We believe in social justice an environmental sustainability and through our Organic, Fair Trade and Shade Grown farming practices we are making a difference one cup at a time.”

Fair Trade Coffee

Fair Trade CertifiedOur Fair Trade coffee is your reassurance that every cup of coffee brewed was purchased under fair conditions. Typically, only pennies on the dollar for each pound of coffee that you buy actually makes it back to the farmer. However, under Fair Trade practices farmers are paid a fair price for their crops and not taken advantage of by greedy brokers or large corporations. Whenever possible, we buy our beans directly from the farmers who grow them. Our customers get first rate coffee without shortchanging the farmers who produce it. By paying farmers fair wages, we help coffee growers build a better life for themselves and their families.

Shade Grown

Coffee that is grown under a combination of native forest trees, planted tree and plant species, including fruit and vegetables. Such practices allow farmers to bring other products to market while supporting bird life. Crops are traditionally grown amongst forest trees; shade also discourages weed growth, which may reduce pathogen infection. Additionally, crops are protected from frost, helps to increase numbers of pollinators which results in better fruit set. Coffee grown in the shade takes longer to ripen, but it is full of flavor since the long ripening times contribute to a more complex bean.

Organic Certification

USDA OrganicOur Organic varieties are coffees that are free of chemicals, pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers and carry the USDA’s stamp or sticker. The USDA’s National Organic Program regulates the standards for all agricultural products sold as organically produced. It assures consumers that the organic foods they purchase are produced, processed, and certified to be consistent with national organic standards.

Swiss Water Process

Swiss WaterThe Swiss Water Process is a 100% chemical free coffee decaffeinating process. Most other processes use chemical solvents, like methylene chloride, to decaffeinate coffee beans. Conversely, the Swiss Water Process uses only water.

The Swiss Water Process is the only decaffeination process that is Certified Organic. To learn more about the Swiss Water Process, visit www.swisswater.com.
